Barely a few days after Microsoft launched Cortana for Android in the US, the company has now disabled the digital-assistant handsfree feature on Android. The problem apparently stems from some incompatibilities with ‘OK Google’ feature of Google Now.
In conversation with VentureBeat, a Microsoft spokesperson stated, “We’ve received user feedback that the ‘Hey Cortana’ feature is conflicting with Android voice search and are temporarily disabling the feature while we evaluate a solution.” In layman words, Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana is conflicting with Google’s very own digital assistant Google Now and thats why, the company has temporarily disabled to feature, till they reach a solution.
Currently, the app is only available to users in the US and China. The app’s changelog on Google Play Store for the latest version includes improved app stability and enhanced call and text features. But the bullet point states, removed ‘Hey Cortana’ feature for US market, added the report.
In November this year, Microsoft announced that Cortana would be available in India after adapting her to the cultural nuances of India and learning the Indian accent.
For now, Cortana will work only in English and Microsoft has made spruced it up to understand Indian accent. Besides, the company has also introduced an Indian voice. It also understands Indian terms such as festivals, India-specific food and popular game of cricket.
